Mermaid Lood is a set of coated lead weights that work as everyday dive weights for scuba diving and freediving. Each block is standard 0.5 kg or 1.0 kg lead with slots on the back for a weight belt, so it fits straight into a normal weight set-up. The difference is in the finish: every block carries a VK coating for protection and comes in an ocean shape rather than a raw, uncoated bar.
There are three shapes in the collection. The Starfish (Zeester Loodblok) is the most iconic design, a five-pointed shape that is compact and functional. The Shell (Schelp Loodblok) is classic and elegant, with a flat design that is practical in use. The Turtle (Schildpad Loodblok) is the playful one, with a detailed shell design that stays fully functional. All three attach to a weight belt through slots on the back, come in 0.5 kg and 1.0 kg, and can be combined to build your ideal load. Colors vary by model and weight and include blue, green, purple, and pink.
The blocks were originally developed for a specific need. Mermaid swimming has grown fast as a sport and pastime, and regular dive lead was never made for sensitive mermaid tails, where the raw material can abrade, oxidize, and damage the fabric. Van Krimpen answered that with a coated block that protects the tail, which is where the name and the Save the Tail line come from. The same coated, weight-belt-ready blocks work just as well for scuba divers and freedivers.
Mermaid Lood is made by Van Krimpen, a Dutch family business that has specialized fully in dive lead since 1990. Where others treat lead as a by-product, for Van Krimpen, it is the main focus. The range is unique in Europe: for the first time, this coated lead is available through a Dutch specialist, and it is not sold anywhere else in Europe. Functional, colorful, and developed from specialism.
