The Mares Quad 2 is a wrist-mount dive computer that covers the full range from recreational air diving to technical trimix diving in a single device. It combines a precise decompression algorithm, multi-gas compatibility, a clear segmented display, and direct Bluetooth connectivity into a compact, straightforward package.
The decompression algorithm is Bühlmann ZH-L16C with customizable gradient factors. Bühlmann ZH-L16C is one of the most widely used decompression models in diving, calculating nitrogen and helium loading across theoretical tissue compartments throughout the dive and ascent. Gradient factors allow the diver to adjust conservatism: lower values produce more conservative decompression ceilings, higher values allow the diver to approach the theoretical tissue limits more closely. The Mares Quad 2 extends this further with Alternate Gradient Factors and CEIL-CON decompression, giving experienced technical divers additional control over how ceiling depths are calculated.
Gas support covers air, nitrox from EAN 21% to EAN 99%, and trimix in both hypoxic and normoxic configurations. Gas switching is supported, allowing divers to change to a richer gas mix during ascent to take advantage of faster off-gassing. A bottom timer mode with resettable average depth and stopwatch function is available for divers who manage decompression independently using dive tables or separate software.
The display uses Full View technology with segmented Chip-on-Glass construction. Full View dive computers are designed for excellent readability, clear data display, and easy navigation in all diving conditions. Chip-on-Glass places the driver circuitry directly on the glass substrate, reducing thickness and improving display contrast and sharpness. The result is a wrist dive computer display that is easy to read at depth, in low visibility, and in bright surface conditions.
The four-button interface with quick commands allows full navigation on the surface and underwater. An underwater menu lets the diver change certain settings mid-dive without surfacing, which is useful when adjusting gas mix settings or alarm thresholds during a dive. A decompression planner with an additional surface interval function allows repetitive dive planning before entering the water.
Safety Stop+ is included. After the standard three-minute safety stop, Safety Stop+ activates a counter that tracks remaining stop time based on a user-selectable surface gradient factor of 70 or 75, supporting a more controlled ascent. A GF Surf warning can be set to alert the diver when the surface gradient factor reaches a value between 50 and 150. During the dive, the actual rate of change of the surface gradient factor is displayed in real time, giving the diver a live picture of how decompression stress is evolving.
Altitude adjustment is automatic. The Mares Quad 2 measures ambient pressure every 20 seconds, including when the computer is switched off, and adjusts decompression calculations accordingly. This makes it suitable for altitude diving without manual input.
The logbook stores 100 hours of dive profiles at a five-second sampling rate. Residual nitrogen reset is available for resort or instructor use across multiple divers. Exclusion of uncontrolled ascent is supported. Metric and imperial units are both selectable. Fresh and salt water settings are available. Audible alarms can be disabled for visual-only operation.
Bluetooth is built in and connects the Mares Quad 2 directly to a smartphone. The Mares app is available on Google Play and the App Store and handles automatic dive log upload, detailed logbook tracking, and firmware updates without requiring a cable or separate interface device. Firmware is upgradeable via the Mares app.
The battery is a CR2450, user-replaceable, with a rated life of 100 dives. There is no USB charging port.
Mares produces dive equipment used by recreational and technical divers worldwide. The Mares Quad 2 carries product number 414152.
For divers asking which scuba dive computer to choose for trimix or technical diving on a budget: the Mares Quad 2 provides the Bühlmann ZH-L16C algorithm with gradient factors, full trimix support, gas switching, and built-in Bluetooth in a wrist dive computer without requiring additional adapters or interfaces. Divers who need air integration, a colour display, or an integrated compass should consider the Mares Quad Ci, which sits above the Quad 2 in the Mares dive computer range.
